Intellectual property

The core intellectual property of this project is

  1. A database of medical phrases, their translations and transliterations and associated annotations.
  2. A curriculum for a 20 session Multilingual Medical Interviewing Course aimed at pre-clinical medical students. Other curricula may follow.
  3. Educational resources built around the medical phrases and curricula such as electronic and printed phrasebooks, Anki flashcard decks, educational videos etc.
  4. Data collected either has part of project related quality improvement or IRB approved academic research.

Our ultimate goal is to ensure that health care providers and organizations around the world interested in learning a language for the specific purpose of improving the delivery to health care have the best tools to be successful.

We are mindful that multiple people have contributed their intellectual labor, time and money to Clinic Conversations project. For now, all intellectual property will be held under the project name. In future we anticipate that a good amount of our work will be licensed under a Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) License and be made freely available online.

We are in the initial stages of exploring the option of creating a print-on-demand edition of our phrase books and course material that we will also use to recoup costs and a small overhead from users so that we cover project related costs. Currently Clinic Conversations is not a registered legal entity. Once we reach the point at which we need a legal/financial structure to sell products, we anticipate that we will register as a Section 8 company in India and/or a 501(c)(3) organization in the United States.

All individuals involved in the project will be recognised on the project website.
