As part of our efforts to create better resources for language training in medical education, we are compiling a series of medical phrasebooks in the common languages used in medical colleges in Bengaluru. These will supplement the pilot Multilingual Medical Interviewing course we developed in collaboration with St. John’s Medical College.
We currently need to translate and translitarate words and phrases that are commonly used by medical students while talking with patients. We have created a master list in English and have arranged for professional translations in each language. We need you help in quality improvement that would ensure that our translations are respectful, caring and easily understandable by Indian patients. We also need to quality check the translations in each language script and phonetic guides written in English and Devanagari scripts.
Who owns the intellectual property associated with the project?
To start, you will need to know how to write in Indian scripts in a Google Doc file. The best way to do so is to use Google Input Tools through an extension for the Chrome internet browser or an Indic script app for your Android device. Once you are familiar with editing Indic scripts you are ready to get started!
